Research overview
What the numbers say
LinkedIn is large and still growing. The company reports more than 1.4 billion members in October 2026, up from 1.2 billion in Microsoft's fiscal 2025 annual report and 1.3 billion in its fiscal 2026 report. Europe, the Middle East and Africa is the biggest region at 450 million plus, ahead of Asia Pacific at 427 million plus and North America at 296 million plus. These are registered members rather than active users, so the totals overstate how many people use LinkedIn in a given month.
The business is growing faster than it did a year ago. Microsoft reported LinkedIn revenue of $19,817 million for the fiscal year to June 2026, up 11% after 9% growth in fiscal 2025, and quarterly growth rose from 10% to 12% across the year. Advertising formats tied to video and creators are the quickest movers: paid video grew 25% and creator-led ads 63% year over year, while Premium Company Pages subscriptions more than doubled.
Actual use in the US is narrower than the member count suggests. Pew Research Center found 31% of US adults use LinkedIn in 2026, almost unchanged from 30% in 2023. Use is concentrated among college graduates (51%), higher earners (45% of those in $100,000 plus households) and adults under 30 (41%), and just 6% of Americans regularly get news there. LinkedIn's audience is professional and educated, which is what advertisers pay for, but it reaches a minority of adults.
LinkedIn's own data describe a tough job market where AI skills stand out. US hiring on the platform was 25% below its February 2020 pace in August 2026, and applicants per open US role have doubled since spring 2022. Postings asking for AI literacy have risen about 65% a year, members listing those skills are 78% more likely to be hired, yet only 1.2% of members list an AI skill. Both job seekers (81%) and recruiters (93%) say they are using or increasing AI in hiring.

IndustryLinkedInQ1 Earnings & Business HighlightsOct 2026
What these figures suggest
LinkedIn's data show a slow hiring market with crowded applicant pools: US hiring on the platform was 25% below its February 2020 pace in August 2026, and applicants per open US role have doubled since spring 2022. Job seekers and recruiters are both turning to AI to cope. LinkedIn sells hiring tools, so its survey framing tends to highlight problems those tools address.

Demand for AI skills on LinkedIn is growing far faster than supply: job postings asking for AI literacy have risen about 65% a year, yet only 1.2% of members list an AI skill. Members who do list those skills are hired more often. These are correlations from LinkedIn data, and members who add AI skills may differ in other ways too.

About these figures
Figures come from LinkedIn's pressroom and Economic Graph, Microsoft's annual reports and quarterly earnings releases, and Pew Research Center surveys of US adults, and every quote was checked against the publisher's page. LinkedIn member counts are registered accounts, not active users. LinkedIn survey figures come from Censuswide and YouGov polls commissioned by LinkedIn, which sells the hiring and advertising products the surveys discuss. Microsoft's fiscal year ends June 30, and Pew's usage figures cover US adults only.
Every figure was taken from the publisher's own page, together with the sentence it appears in, and that sentence is re-checked against the source before each update. Where a survey covers a specific group, the figure says so. Read the methodology. Spotted a problem? Email editorial@mojolin.com.
