Research overview
What the numbers say
Video is close to universal in business marketing. Wyzowl's State of Video Marketing 2026 found 91% of businesses use video as a marketing tool, up from 61% in 2016, and 93% of video marketers call it an important part of their strategy. Production has moved in house: 59% make their videos internally, and live action is the main format for 51%. Among the minority not using video, cost and a sense that it is not needed are the main reasons, yet 67% of those non-users plan to start.
Spending is steady rather than surging. 92% of video marketers plan to spend the same or more in the coming year, but only 49% plan to spend more, and 17% cannot say what share of their budget goes to video. The share reporting a good return fell to 82% from a record 93% a year earlier, the largest drop among the long-running measures. Marketers still report broad benefits, including 83% who say video directly increased sales, while views (67%) and engagement (63%) remain the most common ways to measure success.
Audience data explain why YouTube dominates marketer plans. Pew Research Center found 84% of US adults use YouTube, far more than TikTok (37%) or Instagram (half of adults), and Nielsen measured YouTube at a record 15.8% of all US TV viewing time in August 2026, ahead of every media company. Short video keeps growing: YouTube Shorts averages 200 billion daily views, about half of 18 to 29 year olds open TikTok daily, and one-fifth of US adults regularly get news there.
AI is the fastest-moving variable. The share of video marketers who have used AI to create or edit video rose from 51% to 63% in a single year, the biggest change in Wyzowl's report, and YouTube says more than 1 million channels used its AI creation tools daily in December 2025. In sales, Vidyard's customer data show video creation up 88% in 2024 and AI avatar adoption up 12 times in eight months. Short formats still hold attention best: 65% of viewers finish videos under a minute, against 20% for videos over 20 minutes.

What these figures suggest
Most video marketers plan to hold or raise spending, but budgets vary widely and a sizable minority does not track them at all. Views and engagement remain the default success metrics, and short videos of 30 seconds to 2 minutes are seen as the most effective.

What these figures suggest
Consumers say video plays a direct role in purchase decisions: most have watched an explainer video and most have been persuaded to buy by one. Short video is by far the preferred way to learn about a product, and production quality affects trust. Pew data on TikTok show the same pattern on social platforms, where most adult users look at product reviews or recommendations.

TikTok has also become a regular news source for a fifth of US adults, which matters for brands that use it for awareness.

About these figures
Figures come from original publishers: Wyzowl's own State of Video Marketing survey, Pew Research Center surveys, Nielsen's The Gauge measurement, YouTube's official blog and Vidyard's analysis of its customer data, and every quote was checked against the publisher's page. Wyzowl's 2026 report surveyed 266 marketers and consumers in late 2025, so its percentages carry a wide margin of error. YouTube and Vidyard figures are company-reported and cover their own platforms, and Nielsen measures US TV-screen viewing only, so compare trends rather than exact levels across sources.
Every figure was taken from the publisher's own page, together with the sentence it appears in, and that sentence is re-checked against the source before each update. Where a survey covers a specific group, the figure says so. Read the methodology. Spotted a problem? Email editorial@mojolin.com.
