Mojolin is self-funded How we score

ChatGPT is our top pick for most writers: the free plan already handles everyday drafting, and Plus at $20 per month adds stronger reasoning models, projects, custom GPTs and expanded memory. Claude is a close second for long-form work, with Docs, Artifacts and memory on every plan and Pro from $17 per month billed annually. Google Gemini is the best value for Gmail and Docs users at $4.99 per month for Google AI Plus. Marketing teams that need several brand voices and audiences should look at Jasper, and anyone who mostly edits their own writing will get more from Grammarly or Wordtune.

    ChatGPT

OpenAI's general AI assistant for drafting, rewriting, research and image creation on web, desktop and mobile.

    chatgpt.com

    9.2

    out of 10

Best for: Marketers and writers who want one assistant for short copy, emails, research and long drafts.

ChatGPT is the most flexible writing tool on this list. The Free plan includes unlimited text chats, limited uploads, image creation, voice chats and deep research, which covers a lot of everyday work such as subject lines, social posts and first drafts. Go adds more messages with tools, more uploads and longer memory, though OpenAI notes that the plan may include ads.

Plus, at $20 per month, is where it becomes a daily writing tool: advanced reasoning models, expanded messages and uploads, expanded deep research and memory, and projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs. Projects are useful for marketers, because a brand guide, past campaigns and a style sheet can sit next to every draft. What ChatGPT lacks is the structured brand voice, audience and campaign tooling of Jasper or Writer, so teams producing high volumes of on-brand copy will need their own prompts and review process. For most individual writers, it is the best first tool to buy.

    Standout feature

The free plan offers unlimited text chats, which no paid-only writing platform can match.

    Use cases

    • Content marketers

Keep a brand guide in a project and draft blog posts from it

      Outcome: More consistent first drafts

    • Email marketers

Generate subject line and preview text variants

Outcome: More options to test per send

    • Freelance writers

Run deep research before outlining an article

Outcome: A sourced brief to write from

    Key features

    • Unlimited text chats on the Free plan, subject to abuse guardrails
    • Projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs on Plus
    • Deep research, with expanded limits on Plus
    • Memory across conversations, expanded on Plus
    • Image creation and voice chat

    Pros

    • Free plan is enough for everyday drafting
    • Projects keep briefs and brand guidelines next to each draft
    • Plus also includes Codex for technical writers and developers

    Cons

    • The Go plan may include ads
    • No built-in brand voice or audience library like marketing platforms
    • Prices on chatgpt.com load in the app, so check your local price
  2. Rank 2 · Runner-up

    Claude

Anthropic's AI assistant for writing and analysis, with Artifacts, Docs, memory and connected apps on every plan.

    claude.com

    9.1

    out of 10

Best for: Writers and editors working on long documents, reports and careful rewrites.

Claude is the strongest choice here for long-form writing. Every plan, including Free, includes chat on web, desktop and mobile, web search, file creation, memory across conversations, connected apps, and Artifacts, Claude Docs, Slides and Design, so a writer can go from outline to a formatted document in one place. Pro adds more usage, projects, the ability to hand off and schedule tasks, and Claude in Chrome, Microsoft 365 and Outlook, which is handy for drafting email replies and documents inside the apps marketers already use.

Pro costs $17 per month with the annual discount ($200 billed up front) or $20 monthly. The main drawback is metering: limits reset every 5 hours and every week, and Anthropic says long chats and large files use them faster, so writers who paste in long source documents all day may need Max at $100 per month. Claude has no campaign templates or audience profiles, so marketers bring their own brief.

    Standout feature

Docs, Artifacts and memory are included even on the free plan.

    Use cases

    • Long-form writers

Turn interview notes and research into a structured draft in Claude Docs

Outcome: A formatted first draft in one workspace

    • Marketing managers

Draft replies and briefs inside Outlook

      Outcome: Less switching between apps

    • Editors

Compare a draft against a style guide stored in a project

      Outcome: Faster, more consistent edits

    Key features

    • Chat on web, desktop and mobile with memory across conversations
    • Artifacts, Claude Docs, Slides and Design on every plan
    • Web search, file creation and code execution
    • Projects and scheduled tasks on Pro
    • Claude in Chrome, Microsoft 365 and Outlook on Pro

    Pros

    • Free plan includes web search, memory and connected apps
    • Pro costs $17 per month on annual billing
    • Claude for Outlook drafts email where you already work

    Cons

    • Usage limits reset every 5 hours and every week
    • Heavy users may need Max at $100 per month
    • No marketing templates or campaign tools

    Google Gemini

Google's AI assistant, with Gemini built into Gmail, Docs and other Google apps on paid plans.

    gemini.google

    8.9

    out of 10

Best for: Writers and marketers who work in Gmail and Google Docs every day.

Gemini is the best value on this list for anyone who writes in Google apps. The free plan includes Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas for drafting and editing, Gems for saved instructions, image generation and Gemini Notebook, which Google describes as a research and writing assistant. Google AI Plus costs $4.99 per month and doubles usage limits, adds Gemini in Gmail and other Google apps, and includes 400 GB of storage.

Google AI Pro, at $19.99 per month, adds the Pro model, four times the free usage limits, Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Vids, and 5 TB of storage. For a marketer drafting emails in Gmail and articles in Docs, that removes the copy and paste step entirely. The trade-off is that Gemini has no campaign templates, audience profiles or brand voice library, and it is much less useful for teams that live in Microsoft 365. As a low-cost assistant for Google users, it is hard to beat.

    Standout feature

Google AI Plus adds Gemini in Gmail and 400 GB of storage for $4.99 per month.

    Use cases

    • Email marketers

Draft and rewrite messages directly in Gmail

      Outcome: No switching between tabs

    • Content writers

Use Canvas to draft and revise an article

Outcome: A cleaner draft before it goes to Docs

    • Researchers

      Collect sources in Gemini Notebook

Outcome: Notes and drafts grounded in the same material

    Key features

    • Gemini app with Deep Research, Canvas and Gems
    • Gemini Notebook, a research and writing assistant
    • Gemini in Gmail and other Google apps on Google AI Plus, and in Docs on Google AI Pro
    • Image generation and editing
    • 400 GB of storage on Google AI Plus and 5 TB on Google AI Pro

    Pros

    • Google AI Plus is one of the cheapest paid plans at $4.99 per month
    • Writes directly inside Gmail and Google apps
    • Plans bundle Google cloud storage

    Cons

    • Gemini in Docs is listed on Google AI Pro, not Plus
    • Less useful if your team works in Microsoft 365
    • Fewer marketing-specific controls than Jasper or Writer
  4. Rank 4

    Grammarly

AI writing assistant that checks grammar, tone and clarity across apps, with AI prompts for generating text.

    grammarly.com

    8.7

    out of 10

Best for: Writers and teams who mostly write their own copy and want it clean, on-tone and consistent.

Grammarly is the editor most writers already have installed, and its plans now mix editing with generation. The Free plan checks spelling and grammar, shows your writing tone and includes 100 AI prompts per month. Pro adds one-click full sentence rewrites, tone adjustment, fluency suggestions for English, inclusive language and citation checks, plagiarism and AI generated text detection, and 2,000 AI prompts per member per month.

For marketing teams, the useful extras are the style guide, brand tone, snippets and team analytics. Pro includes one style guide and one brand tone, while Enterprise, sold through Superhuman Go, removes those limits and adds SAML SSO, SCIM, data loss prevention and BYOK encryption. Grammarly is not the tool for drafting a full article from a prompt, but as a second layer on top of ChatGPT or Claude, or for teams that write their own copy, it catches mistakes and keeps tone consistent. USD prices did not load from our location.

    Standout feature

Pro combines plagiarism checks and AI text detection with 2,000 AI prompts a month.

    Use cases

    • Copywriters

Check tone and rewrite sentences before handing off copy

      Outcome: Fewer edit rounds

    • Content teams

Apply one style guide and brand tone across writers

      Outcome: More consistent published copy

    • Editors

Scan submissions for plagiarism and AI generated text

      Outcome: Fewer surprises after publishing

    Key features

    • Spelling, grammar and tone checks on the Free plan
    • Full sentence rewrites and tone adjustment on Pro
    • Plagiarism and AI generated text detection on Pro
    • 2,000 AI prompts per member per month on Pro
    • Style guide, brand tone and snippets for teams

    Pros

    • Free plan covers spelling, grammar and tone detection
    • Pro adds plagiarism and AI text detection
    • Team style guide and brand tones keep copy consistent

    Cons

    • Pro includes 1 style guide and 1 brand tone; unlimited needs Enterprise
    • SAML SSO and SCIM require Enterprise
    • USD prices did not load from our location, so check the pricing page
  5. Rank 5

    Jasper

AI content platform for marketing teams, with brand voices, audiences, knowledge assets and marketing agents.

    jasper.ai

    8.3

    out of 10

Best for: Marketing teams producing on-brand content across channels at volume.

Jasper is the most marketing-focused tool on this list. The Pro plan includes one seat, the Canvas platform for creating on-brand content, agents for core marketing workflows, and Jasper IQ customization with 2 Brand Voices, 5 Knowledge assets and 3 Audiences. Brand Voice analyzes your existing content and lets you set tone and formatting rules, and Audiences turn static personas into inputs that shape every asset. That structure is what separates Jasper from a general assistant when several people write for the same brand.

Pro costs $59 per seat per month billed yearly or $69 monthly, with a 7-day free trial and no free plan. Business, on custom pricing, adds agents for GEO, translation and deep research, a no-code builder for custom agents, Jasper Grid for systematic content at scale, unlimited voices and audiences, API access and admin controls. Solo writers will find better value in ChatGPT or Claude, but marketing teams that care about consistent voice across channels should shortlist Jasper.

    Standout feature

Audiences and Brand Voice make every draft start from your positioning, not a blank prompt.

    Use cases

    • Marketing teams

Write campaign assets from a shared brand voice and audience

      Outcome: Consistent tone across channels

    • Agencies

Keep separate brand voices for different clients

Outcome: Less rewriting to match each client

    • Content leads

Run repeatable content workflows with agents

      Outcome: More output per writer

    Key features

    • Canvas platform for on-brand content creation
    • Agents for core marketing workflows
    • 2 Brand Voices, 5 Knowledge assets and 3 Audiences on Pro
    • Business adds GEO, translation and deep research agents
    • Jasper Grid for scaled content and a no-code agent builder on Business

    Pros

    • Built around marketing work rather than general chat
    • Brand Voice learns tone and formatting rules from your content
    • Audiences turn personas into inputs for every asset

    Cons

    • Most expensive per seat self-serve plan on this list
    • No free plan, only a 7-day trial
    • API access and admin controls require Business

    Wordtune

AI21 Labs' rewriting and editing assistant for paraphrasing, summarizing and grammar checks in the browser.

    wordtune.com

    8.3

    out of 10

Best for: Writers who want to rephrase and tighten their own sentences quickly and cheaply.

Wordtune is a focused rewriting tool rather than a full drafting assistant, and that focus keeps it simple and cheap. It paraphrases emails, articles and messages in one click, summarizes text and video, generates context-based copy and checks spelling and grammar. The free Basic plan allows 10 rewrites and AI suggestions per day and 3 AI summaries per month, with unlimited grammar and spelling checks.

Advanced costs $4.89 per month billed annually ($6.99 monthly) and raises limits to 30 rewrites per day and 15 summaries per month. Unlimited costs $6.99 per month billed annually ($9.99 monthly) and removes those caps, adding vocabulary, clarity and fluency improvements and premium support. There are Chrome and Edge extensions and an iOS app, and students, educators and nonprofits get 30% off. Wordtune has no brand voice, templates or team features, and it does not offer refunds, so use the 3-day trial first. For writers who already draft their own copy, it is an inexpensive polish layer.

    Standout feature

Unlimited rewrites cost $6.99 per month on annual billing.

    Use cases

    • Social media managers

      Rephrase captions in several tones

      Outcome: Faster caption options

    • Non-native English writers

Improve fluency and clarity of emails

      Outcome: More natural client messages

    • Researchers

Summarize articles before reading them in full

Outcome: Less time on irrelevant sources

    Key features

    • One-click rewrites and paraphrasing
    • Summaries of text and video
    • AI writing for original, context-based copy
    • Unlimited spelling corrections and grammar checks on every plan
    • Chrome and Microsoft Edge extensions and an iOS app

    Pros

    • Cheapest paid plan on this list at $4.89 per month billed annually
    • Free plan includes 10 rewrites and AI suggestions per day
    • Unlimited plan removes rewrite and summary caps for $6.99 per month billed annually

    Cons

    • Advanced caps rewrites at 30 per day and summaries at 15 per month
    • No brand voice, templates or team workflow features
    • Wordtune says it does not offer refunds
  7. Rank 7

    Anyword

AI copywriting platform for marketers that scores copy with performance predictions.

    anyword.com

    8.2

    out of 10

Best for: Performance marketers writing ads, landing pages and emails who want a predicted score before launch.

Anyword is built for marketers who care about how copy performs, not just how it reads. Its distinguishing feature is performance prediction: the tool scores generated copy so you can compare variants before a campaign goes live. Starter, at $39 per month billed yearly or $49 monthly, includes one seat, unlimited copy generation, 1 brand voice, 100 performance predictions, 100+ marketing templates and prompts, a Blog Wizard with plagiarism checker and a Chrome extension.

Data-Driven, at $79 per month billed yearly, includes 3 seats, 175 predictions and real-time predictions for manual edits. The more powerful option, training on your own past campaigns with up to 5,000 performance data rows and benchmarking new copy against what you published before, is reserved for the custom-priced Business plan, along with website messaging A/B testing. For long-form articles, a general assistant is more flexible, but for ad and landing page copy, Anyword gives marketers a data point that general assistants do not.

    Standout feature

Performance predictions score copy before it goes live.

    Use cases

    • Paid media marketers

Generate ad headline variants and compare predicted scores

Outcome: Stronger variants go to testing

    • Landing page owners

Rewrite hero copy and check the prediction after each edit

Outcome: Copy decisions backed by a score

    • Bloggers

Draft a post with Blog Wizard and check for plagiarism

      Outcome: Original long-form drafts

    Key features

    • Performance predictions for generated copy
    • Unlimited copy generation with 1 brand voice on Starter
    • 100+ marketing templates and prompts
    • Blog Wizard with plagiarism checker
    • Google Chrome extension

    Pros

    • Predicts how copy will perform before you publish
    • Unlimited copy generation on every plan
    • Data-Driven includes 3 seats

    Cons

    • Starter includes 100 performance predictions and 1 seat
    • Learning from past campaign data needs Business
    • No free plan, only a 7-day trial

    Copy.ai

Go-to-market AI platform with a chat plan for small teams and workflows for marketing and sales content.

    copy.ai

    8.2

    out of 10

Best for: Small marketing and sales teams that want shared AI chat now and content workflows later.

Copy.ai started as a copywriting tool and now positions itself as a go-to-market AI platform, but its entry plan is still a good deal for small teams that write. The Chat plan covers 5 seats with unlimited words in chat, unlimited chat projects and access to OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models for $24 per month billed annually, or $29 monthly. Shared across five people, that is cheaper per person than any single-seat assistant here.

The bigger feature is Workflows, which chain research, content generation and integrations into a repeatable process, for example creating an account plan or writing an SEO article. Brand Voice and Infobase supply company context. The catch is that workflow credits start on the Growth plan at $1,000 per month billed annually for 75 seats, and much of the product is now aimed at sales prospecting and lead processing. Marketing teams that only need shared chat should start on Chat and evaluate Workflows separately.

    Standout feature

One Chat plan covers 5 seats with OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models.

    Use cases

    • Small marketing teams

Share one Chat plan across five writers

Outcome: AI chat for the team at a low per-person cost

    • Content operations

Build a workflow that drafts SEO articles from a brief

      Outcome: Repeatable article production

    • Localization teams

      Translate and adapt campaign copy

Outcome: Faster rollout to new markets

    Key features

    • Unlimited words in chat and unlimited chat projects
    • Access to OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models
    • Brand Voice and Infobase for company context
    • Workflows that combine research, content generation and integrations
    • Use cases for account based marketing, content creation and localization

    Pros

    • Chat plan covers 5 seats for $24 per month billed annually
    • Choose between OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models
    • Workflows can automate tasks such as writing an SEO article

    Cons

    • Workflow credits start on the $1,000 per month Growth plan
    • Product focus has moved to sales and go-to-market automation
    • No free plan is listed on the pricing page
  9. Rank 9

    Rytr

Low-cost AI writing assistant with 40+ use cases, a browser extension and relationship tools for follow-ups.

    rytr.me

    8.2

    out of 10

Best for: Freelancers and small businesses that want cheap, simple AI drafting for emails and posts.

Rytr is one of the simplest and cheapest AI writers to start with. The free plan includes 10,000 characters per month, 40+ writing use cases and 30+ languages, along with a daily briefing and a small allowance of relationship tools. Lite costs $9 per month and removes the character limit, which is enough for a freelancer drafting emails, posts and product descriptions every day.

The product has shifted toward communication: Personal ($19 per month) and Pro ($49 per month) add connected sources such as Gmail, Outlook, Slack and Google Calendar, active relationships, Engage actions and person research runs, and Pro adds morning and evening briefings and custom use cases. That makes Rytr useful for writing follow-up emails with context, but it offers less than ChatGPT or Claude for long-form articles and has no brand voice library like Jasper. Yearly billing saves 20%. For anyone who wants unlimited short-form drafting at the lowest price, Lite is a solid buy.

    Standout feature

Unlimited characters for $9 per month on Lite.

    Use cases

    • Freelancers

Draft client emails and social posts from templates

Outcome: Quick drafts at low cost

    • Founders

Write follow-ups with context from Gmail and Slack

      Outcome: Fewer dropped conversations

    • Small shops

Write product descriptions in several languages

Outcome: Listings ready for more markets

    Key features

    • 40+ writing use cases in 30+ languages
    • Unlimited characters on Lite and above
    • Browser extension and Gmail, Outlook and Slack integrations
    • Daily briefing and follow-up tracking for relationships
    • Custom use cases on Pro

    Pros

    • Lite removes the character limit for $9 per month
    • Free plan works without a time limit
    • Yearly billing saves 20%

    Cons

    • Free plan stops at 10,000 characters per month
    • Newer plans focus on relationship follow-ups more than long-form writing
    • No brand voice library or team workflows on self-serve plans
  10. Rank 10

    Writer

Enterprise AI platform with an agent, playbooks, a knowledge graph and brand voice controls for business teams.

    writer.com

    8.0

    out of 10

Best for: Larger marketing organizations that need governed, on-brand AI workflows across teams.

Writer has grown from a brand writing assistant into an enterprise AI platform, and it is the most governed option here. WRITER Agent gives teams one interface for chat and automation, Playbooks turn multi-step work into repeatable workflows, and the Knowledge Graph grounds output in company decisions, brand guidelines and compliance rules. Starter supports up to 5 users with up to 5 Playbooks, one team personality profile, 50 GB in a single graph, up to 3 active connectors and access to 100+ prebuilt agents, with a 14-day free trial that needs no credit card.

Enterprise removes those limits and adds departmental brand and voice profiles, custom guardrails, audit logs, SAML SSO, SCIM, HIPAA support and the option to use other LLMs. Writer says Starter is billed per seat with fixed credit limits, but the price did not appear on the plans page as we fetched it. For a solo writer this is more platform than needed. For a large marketing team with legal review and several brands, it is a strong fit.

    Standout feature

Knowledge Graph and Playbooks tie AI writing to company rules and approvals.

    Use cases

    • Enterprise marketing teams

Run approved Playbooks for campaign briefs and copy

Outcome: On-brand output with review built in

    • Regulated industries

Ground content in compliance rules in the Knowledge Graph

      Outcome: Fewer legal rewrites

    • Brand teams

      Set departmental voice profiles

Outcome: Each unit sounds like the same company

    Key features

    • WRITER Agent, one interface for chat and automation
    • Playbooks for multi-step workflows, up to 5 on Starter
    • Knowledge Graph with 50 GB of storage on Starter
    • Team personality profile for brand voice
    • 100+ prebuilt agents in the Agent Library

    Pros

    • 14-day free trial with no credit card required
    • Governance, audit logs and guardrails for regulated teams
    • Works with WRITER models and other preferred LLMs on Enterprise

    Cons

    • Starter is limited to 5 users, 1 team and 3 active connectors
    • Starter price is not shown on the plans page as fetched
    • More setup than a general assistant

Buying guide

How to choose

Decide whether you need an assistant or a marketing platform

General assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini write almost anything from a prompt and cost $20 per month or less for individuals. Marketing platforms such as Jasper, Writer and Anyword add brand voices, audience profiles, templates and team controls, and cost more: Jasper Pro is $59 per seat per month billed yearly and Anyword Starter is $39 per month billed yearly.

Set up brand voice before you scale output

Copy that sounds generic usually comes from missing context. Jasper Pro includes 2 Brand Voices, 5 Knowledge assets and 3 Audiences, Anyword Starter includes 1 brand voice, Grammarly Pro includes a style guide and a brand tone, and Writer adds team personality profiles. With ChatGPT and Claude, keep your guidelines in a project so every draft starts from them.

Pick an editor for the writing you do yourself

Not every writer wants AI to draft the whole piece. Grammarly and Wordtune work in the browser and in other apps to fix grammar, rewrite sentences and adjust tone, and Grammarly Pro also checks for plagiarism and AI generated text. These tools fit well next to a drafting assistant.

Check usage limits, not just the price

Many plans meter usage. Claude limits reset every 5 hours and every week, Grammarly Pro includes 2,000 AI prompts per member per month, Rytr Free stops at 10,000 characters per month, and Wordtune Advanced allows 30 rewrites per day. Heavy writers should check that the plan they pick does not cap them mid-project.

Use trials on a real assignment

Jasper and Anyword offer 7-day free trials, Writer offers a 14-day free trial without a credit card, and Wordtune offers a 3-day trial. Run the same brief, for example a product email and a 1,000-word article, through two or three tools and compare how much editing each draft needs.
