Mojolin is self-funded How we score

Amplitude is our top pick for most product and growth teams: every plan includes the full platform and unlimited seats, the Free plan covers 2M events a month, and Plus adds custom events, behavioral cohorts and heatmaps with usage-based billing. Mixpanel is a close second, with unlimited seats, up to 1M events a month free and a Growth plan that adds saved cohorts, custom properties and alerts. PostHog is the strongest choice for engineering-led teams, since one free tier covers 1M analytics events, 5K session recordings and 1M feature flag requests every month. Teams that also need in-app guides should look at Pendo or Userpilot, and teams that run many A/B tests should look at Statsig.

The full ranking

  1. Rank 1 · Best overall

    Amplitude

Digital analytics platform with product analytics, session replay, experimentation and in-app guides on every plan.

    amplitude.com

    9.1

    out of 10

Best for: Product and growth teams that want deep behavioral analysis of activation, retention and feature adoption.

Amplitude is the most complete product analytics platform on this list. Every plan includes the full platform, which means analytics, session replay, experimentation, guides and surveys, plus unlimited seats. The Free plan covers 2M events a month and 10K monthly session replays without a credit card, which is enough for many early products to build activation funnels and retention charts.

Plus starts at $0 for the first 2M events and then scales with event volume up to 70M events. It adds custom events and formulas, 20 behavioral cohorts, alerts, heatmaps and 2 years of data retention, which is where most growth teams will settle. The deeper analysis features, such as conversion drivers, saved metrics, predictions and cross-product analysis, sit on Growth and Enterprise, and those prices come from sales. Amplitude has a learning curve, because its charts expose many options, but teams that invest in a clean tracking plan get the most analytical depth here.

    Standout feature

Analytics, session replay, experiments and guides come with unlimited seats on every plan, including Free.

    Use cases

    • Product managers

Build a behavioral cohort of users who reached the activation event in week one

Outcome: A clear view of what retained users did differently

    • Growth teams

Pair a signup funnel with session replays of users who dropped off

Outcome: Specific onboarding fixes to test

    • Early-stage startups

Apply for the startup scholarship and track on the Growth plan

Outcome: Advanced analysis without a first-year bill

    Key features

    • Product and web analytics with AI-powered analysis on every plan
    • Session replay, with 10,000 monthly sessions on Free and Plus
    • Experiments, guides and surveys included in the platform
    • Custom events, formulas and up to 20 behavioral cohorts on Plus
    • AI agents and an MCP server for asking questions of your data

    Pros

    • Unlimited seats on every plan
    • Free plan covers 2M events per month with no credit card
    • Startups under $10M in funding and 20 employees can get a free year of Growth

    Cons

    • Plus requires a credit card and is billed on usage
    • Conversion drivers and saved metrics need the Growth plan
    • Growth and Enterprise prices are only available from sales
  2. Rank 2 · Runner-up

    Mixpanel

Event-based product analytics with session replay, heatmaps, experiments and feature flags on all plans.

    mixpanel.com

    9.0

    out of 10

Best for: Product teams that want fast funnels, retention and cohort reports without heavy setup.

Mixpanel is the easiest of the major event analytics tools to get answers from. The Free plan already includes unlimited seats, up to 1M events a month, 10K session replays, up to 10 active feature flags and funnels and retention analysis, so a small product team can measure activation and week-over-week retention from day one. Session replay, heatmaps, experiments and feature flags are included on all plans rather than sold as separate products.

Growth starts at $0 and is priced by event volume up to 20M events a month, with volume discounts and savings for annual billing; the pricing page has a slider that shows the monthly price for your volume. Growth adds unlimited saved cohorts, metrics and reports, custom and borrowed properties, more replays and up to 50 active flags. Enterprise adds anomaly detection, data verification and root cause analysis. Mixpanel has fewer bundled guidance and survey tools than Amplitude, but for straightforward funnel and retention work it is quick to learn.

    Standout feature

Session replay, heatmaps, experiments and feature flags are included on all plans, including Free.

    Use cases

    • Product managers

Track the share of new signups who complete onboarding in their first session

Outcome: An activation rate to report every week

    • Growth analysts

Save cohorts of users who adopted a new feature

      Outcome: Retention compared against non-adopters

    • Startup founders

Use the startup program for a free first year

Outcome: Growth plan limits before revenue arrives

    Key features

    • Funnels and retention analysis on the Free plan
    • Session replay, heatmaps, experiments and feature flags on all plans
    • Up to 20M events and 500K session replays per month on Growth
    • Unlimited saved cohorts, metrics and reports on Growth
    • Custom and borrowed properties for reshaping data after the fact

    Pros

    • Unlimited seats on Free and Growth
    • Free plan includes 1M events and 10K session replays a month
    • Pricing calculator shows the Growth price for your event volume

    Cons

    • Free plan caps active feature flags at 10
    • Growth allows up to 5 alerts per project
    • Data quality monitoring and root cause analysis are Enterprise only
  3. Rank 3 · Also great

    PostHog

All-in-one product platform with analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments, surveys and error tracking.

    posthog.com

    8.9

    out of 10

Best for: Engineering-led product teams that want analytics, replay and flags under one free tier.

PostHog bundles more products under one account than any other tool here. Product analytics covers trends, funnels, retention, user paths, stickiness, lifecycle and correlation analysis, and SQL is available for questions the standard insights cannot answer. The same free tier includes 5K session recordings, 1M feature flag requests, 100K exceptions for error tracking and 1,500 survey responses every month, with unlimited team members.

The Free plan stops at its limits, so there is no surprise bill. Adding a card switches to pay as you go: the same free allowance still applies, usage above it is billed per product, and you get 6 projects and 2 years of retention. Most products have their own billing limit. PostHog says 97% of companies use it for free. The trade-off is breadth: the interface assumes some technical comfort, and product managers who only want funnels may find Mixpanel faster. For teams that want analytics, flags and experiments sharing one event stream, PostHog offers the best value on this list.

    Standout feature

One monthly free tier covers analytics, session replay, feature flags, error tracking and surveys.

    Use cases

    • Product engineers

Release a feature behind a flag and measure its adoption in a trends insight

Outcome: Rollout and usage data in one place

    • Growth teams

Run an experiment on the onboarding flow and watch replays of each variant

Outcome: Numbers and context for the winning variant

    • Data-minded PMs

Write SQL against event data for a custom retention cut

Outcome: Answers beyond the standard charts

    Key features

    • Trends, funnels, retention, user paths, stickiness and lifecycle insights
    • SQL access to your event data
    • Session replay with 5K free recordings a month
    • Feature flags and experiments with 1M free flag requests a month
    • Surveys, error tracking, workflows and logs in the same account

    Pros

    • Free tier resets every month and stops at the limit unless you add a card
    • Unlimited team members on the free plan
    • Billing limits can be set on most products

    Cons

    • Free plan allows 1 project and 1 year of data retention
    • Email support starts on pay as you go; community support only on Free
    • The number of products takes time to learn
  4. Rank 4

    Statsig

Experimentation and feature flag platform with product analytics, web analytics and session replay built in.

    statsig.com

    8.6

    out of 10

Best for: Product teams that run frequent A/B tests and want analytics on the same data.

Statsig started from experimentation and feature flags and now includes product analytics, web analytics and session replay on the same platform. That suits growth teams whose activation work is mostly A/B tests: the event that defines success in an experiment is the same event you chart in analytics. The Developer plan is free with 2M events a month, unlimited flag and config checks, 50,000 session replays, 1 year of analytics retention and unlimited seats.

Pro costs $150 per month with 5M events included and $0.05 per additional 1K events, and adds advanced experimentation, advanced product analytics, unlimited analytics retention, change reviews and API controls. Enterprise adds warehouse native deployment, data warehouse imports, SSO and role-based access. The analytics side is capable but less deep than Amplitude or Mixpanel for exploratory cohort work, so Statsig fits best when experiments are the center of how the team ships.

    Standout feature

The free Developer plan includes 2M events, unlimited flag checks and 50,000 session replays a month.

    Use cases

    • Growth engineers

Test two onboarding flows against a week-one retention metric

      Outcome: A statistically checked winner

    • Product teams

Roll out a feature gradually with flags and track adoption

Outcome: Safer launches with usage data

    • Data teams

Run Statsig in the company data warehouse on Enterprise

      Outcome: Experiments on governed data

    Key features

    • A/B/n and multi-variate experiments with Bayesian and frequentist methods
    • Feature flags and config management with unlimited checks
    • Product and web analytics with 1-year retention on Developer
    • Session replay, 50,000 per month on Developer and 100,000 on Pro
    • Warehouse native deployment on Enterprise

    Pros

    • Free Developer plan includes 2M events and unlimited seats
    • Pro price and overage rate are published
    • Unlimited analytics retention on Pro

    Cons

    • Pro starts at a $150 monthly baseline
    • SSO and role-based access controls are Enterprise only
    • Analytics is one part of an experimentation-first product
  5. Rank 5

    Heap

Product analytics from Contentsquare with automatic data capture, funnels, journeys and account analytics.

    heap.io

    8.4

    out of 10

Best for: Teams that want to analyze behavior without tagging every event in advance.

Heap is now part of Contentsquare, and its pricing page lists four plans. The Free plan includes core analytics charts, unlimited enrichment sources, guides integrations, 6 months of data history and SSO for up to 10k monthly sessions, which is unusual at the free level. Growth adds Sense, Contentsquare's AI assistant, along with unlimited users and reports, chart customization, CSV exports, 12 months of history and email support; Heap gives a price estimate after you install the snippet.

Pro adds account analytics, an engagement matrix and report alerts, which help B2B teams see which customer accounts are adopting a feature. Premier adds data warehouse integration, behavioral targeting, unlimited projects, advanced permissions and a dedicated CSM. Session replay is sold as an add-on on Pro and Premier. Heap is a good fit for teams that want funnels and journeys without a long tracking plan, but the lack of published prices makes budgeting harder than with Mixpanel or Statsig.

    Standout feature

The Free plan includes SSO and 6 months of data history.

    Use cases

    • B2B product managers

Use account analytics to find customers with low feature adoption

Outcome: A list for customer success to contact

    • Small product teams

Build funnels on the Free plan without a long tracking plan

Outcome: Early activation data with little engineering time

    • Analytics leads

Sync Heap data to the warehouse on Premier

Outcome: Product data joined with revenue data

    Key features

    • Core analytics charts including funnels and journeys
    • Unlimited enrichment sources and guides integrations
    • Sense, Contentsquare's AI assistant, on Growth and above
    • Account analytics, engagement matrix and report alerts on Pro
    • Data warehouse integration and behavioral targeting on Premier

    Pros

    • Free plan includes SSO and 6 months of data history
    • Unlimited users and reports from the Growth plan
    • Account analytics suits B2B products

    Cons

    • No published USD prices for paid plans
    • Session replay is an add-on on Pro and Premier
    • Free plan is limited to 10k monthly sessions
  6. Rank 6

    Pendo

Product experience platform combining product analytics with in-app guides, session replay and sentiment surveys.

    pendo.io

    8.1

    out of 10

Best for: Product teams that want to measure adoption and change it with in-app guidance in one tool.

Pendo is built for teams that want to change adoption, not only measure it. Every plan includes product analytics and in-app guides, so the product manager who spots a drop-off in a feature can launch a tooltip or walkthrough for the users who stall, then measure whether it worked. Retroactive analytics keeps the full data history from the day of install, and Leo answers questions in natural language without building a report.

Core adds session replay, and Ultimate adds NPS, PMF and CSAT surveys plus Orchestrate, Listen and Data Sync for larger organizations. Add-ons include Predict for churn and upsell models and Agent Analytics for measuring AI agent adoption. The platform states SOC2, GDPR and HIPAA compliance. Every plan is priced on request by MAU volume, which puts Pendo at the enterprise end of this list and makes it hard to compare with self-serve tools. Smaller teams will find Userpilot or a pure analytics tool easier to buy.

    Standout feature

Product analytics and in-app guides are included together on every plan.

    Use cases

    • Product managers

Launch an in-app guide for users who never open a key feature

Outcome: Measured lift in feature adoption

    • Customer success teams

Use Predict to flag accounts at risk of churn

Outcome: Earlier outreach to at-risk customers

    • Product leaders

Run PMF and NPS surveys alongside usage data

Outcome: Sentiment read next to behavior

    Key features

    • Product analytics and in-app guides on every plan
    • Retroactive analytics from the day Pendo is installed
    • Session replay on Core and Ultimate
    • NPS, PMF and CSAT surveys, Orchestrate and Listen on Ultimate
    • Leo, a natural language assistant for questions about your data

    Pros

    • Analytics and in-app guidance come together from the Base plan
    • SOC2, GDPR and HIPAA compliance built into the platform
    • Agent analytics add-on measures AI agent adoption

    Cons

    • All plans require a pricing request
    • Session replay is not in the Base plan
    • No permanent free plan listed on the pricing page
  7. Rank 7

    FullStory

Behavioral data platform with session replay, heatmaps, product analytics and AI session summaries.

    fullstory.com

    8.0

    out of 10

Best for: Teams that want to see exactly what users did in sessions alongside funnels and retention.

FullStory approaches product analytics from session data. Every plan comparison row starts with session insights: replay, heatmaps, scroll maps, click maps, live session viewing and developer tools. On top of that sit product analytics features such as customizable dashboards, funnels, page flow analysis, user segmentation, retention analysis and journeys, so a growth team can find a drop-off and then watch the sessions behind it.

FullstoryFree is a permanent plan with no credit card, 30,000 monthly sessions and 12 months of analytics retention, which is a generous way to try it. The paid Business, Advanced and Enterprise plans are priced after a demo. Mobile analytics, StoryAI and guides and surveys are add-ons. FullStory notes that private and sensitive data is excluded by default and that data history is retroactive. It is a strong second tool next to an event analytics platform, but teams that only need funnels and cohorts will get more for their budget from Mixpanel or Amplitude.

    Standout feature

FullstoryFree includes 30,000 sessions a month and 12 months of analytics retention.

    Use cases

    • Growth teams

Watch replays of users who abandon the signup flow

Outcome: Specific friction points to fix

    • Product designers

Review click and scroll maps on a redesigned page

Outcome: Evidence of which elements get attention

    • Support teams

Find the session behind a bug report

      Outcome: Faster reproduction for engineering

    Key features

    • Session replay, heatmaps, scroll maps and click maps
    • Funnels, retention analysis, journeys and user segmentation
    • StoryAI summaries and a team of AI agents as an add-on
    • Retroactive data history with sensitive data excluded by default
    • Guides and surveys and mobile analytics as add-ons

    Pros

    • Permanent free plan with 30,000 sessions a month
    • 12 months of analytics retention on the free plan
    • Private and sensitive data excluded by default

    Cons

    • Paid plans require a demo and pricing request
    • Mobile analytics is an add-on
    • Guides and surveys cost extra on every plan

    Google Analytics 4

Google's free web and app analytics with explorations, funnels, predictive audiences and ads integrations.

    google.com

    7.9

    out of 10

Best for: Teams that need free web and app analytics tied to marketing and Google Ads.

Google Analytics 4 is the free default most teams already have installed, and Google states that it provides its analytics tools free of charge. It measures users across websites and apps, and its explorations let analysts run free-form analysis and funnel explorations beyond the standard reports. Predictive capabilities use Google's machine learning to estimate which users may purchase or churn, and those predicted audiences can feed retention campaigns.

The strengths lean toward marketing: data-driven attribution, conversion paths and model comparison reports, and integrations with Google Ads, Search Ads 360, Display & Video 360 and Search Console. For product teams, that focus is the limit. Feature-level adoption, account analytics, session replay and experiments are not what GA4 is built for, and building a retention view by feature takes more effort than in Amplitude or Mixpanel. GA4 is worth keeping for acquisition and marketing, paired with a product analytics tool for in-product behavior.

    Standout feature

It costs nothing and connects directly to Google's advertising tools.

    Use cases

    • Growth marketers

Compare which channels bring users who complete signup

Outcome: Budget moved to channels that activate

    • Lifecycle teams

Build an audience of users predicted to churn

      Outcome: Targeted win-back campaigns

    • Small product teams

Run a funnel exploration on the website signup path

Outcome: A free first view of conversion drop-off

    Key features

    • Cross-platform measurement across websites and apps
    • Free-form and funnel explorations for ad hoc analysis
    • Predictive capabilities for purchase and churn likelihood
    • Data-driven attribution and conversion paths reports
    • Integrations with Google Ads, Search Ads 360 and Search Console

    Pros

    • Free of charge
    • Predicted audiences can be used for retention campaigns
    • Native links to Google advertising and Search Console

    Cons

    • Built around marketing measurement more than feature usage
    • Explorations take time to learn
    • No built-in session replay or feature flags
  9. Rank 9

    Kissmetrics

Person-based analytics that ties campaigns, signups and revenue to individual users for SaaS and ecommerce.

    kissmetrics.io

    7.9

    out of 10

Best for: SaaS and ecommerce teams that want to know which campaigns bring paying, retained customers.

Kissmetrics analyzes data as people rather than anonymous events, which suits teams that want to connect acquisition to activation and revenue. The Free plan covers 100k events a month with 3 seats and no card, and includes ready-made funnels and activity reports, dashboards, metrics, a live view, API access and a chat that answers questions in plain English. Kissmetrics says installation takes about 5 minutes with AI and provides ready-made schema examples for SaaS and stores.

Growth costs $99 per month with 500k events included, 20% off when billed annually, and adds unlimited seats and integrations, performance reports that put campaign, signup and revenue on the same person, reusable populations, every report in the app and exports. The price table is published: 2M events cost $299 per month and the per-event price drops at 2M and again at 5M. Kissmetrics lacks the feature flags, experiments and session replay of the larger platforms, but it is the cheapest fixed paid plan here.

    Standout feature

Growth is a fixed $99 per month for 500k events, with the full price table published.

    Use cases

    • SaaS marketers

See which campaigns bring users who reach a paid plan

Outcome: Spend focused on channels that convert

    • Ecommerce teams

Follow repeat purchase behavior per customer

Outcome: A clearer view of retention by source

    • Small product teams

Ask the chat which signup step loses the most people

Outcome: A quick answer without building a report

    Key features

    • Funnels and activity reports, ready-made
    • Plain English chat for questions about your data
    • Performance reports linking campaign, signup and revenue to the same person
    • Populations, reusable groups of people as filters
    • Reporting on visitors from AI assistants

    Pros

    • Free plan with 100k events a month and no card
    • Clear published price table by event volume
    • Unlimited seats and integrations on Growth

    Cons

    • Free plan is limited to 3 seats
    • Fewer product features than Amplitude or PostHog, such as no feature flags listed
    • Focus is on marketing attribution as much as product usage
  10. Rank 10

    Userpilot

Product growth platform with in-app engagement, product analytics, surveys and session replay for SaaS teams.

    userpilot.com

    7.9

    out of 10

Best for: SaaS product teams that want onboarding flows and usage analytics without engineering work.

Userpilot is a product growth platform for SaaS teams that want to improve activation with in-app experiences and track the result. Starter costs $299 per month for up to 2,000 monthly active users and includes in-app user engagement, user segmentation and tracking, usage trends analysis and NPS surveys, along with Lia, its AI agent, and an MCP server. That is enough to build an onboarding checklist and see whether new users reach their first key action.

Growth, from $849 per month, is where the analytics deepen: advanced product analytics, event autocapture, a resource center, advanced in-app surveys, 100k free emails and 5k free session replays a month, and 3 years of data retention. Enterprise adds mobile engagement, CRM integrations, data warehouse sync and custom contracts. Userpilot's analytics are less deep than Amplitude's, and pricing is high for very early products, but it publishes prices, unlike Pendo, which makes it the easier adoption suite to budget for.

    Standout feature

It publishes USD prices for an adoption suite that pairs in-app guidance with analytics.

    Use cases

    • SaaS product managers

Build an onboarding checklist for new accounts

Outcome: More users reaching their first key action

    • Product marketers

Announce a feature in-app to a segment of active users

Outcome: Faster adoption of new releases

    • Customer success teams

Run NPS surveys inside the product

Outcome: Feedback tied to usage data

    Key features

    • In-app user engagement, segmentation and tracking on Starter
    • Usage trends analysis and NPS surveys on Starter
    • Advanced product analytics and event autocapture on Growth
    • Resource center, advanced surveys and 5k free session replays a month on Growth
    • Agent analytics and MCP analytics add-ons for AI features

    Pros

    • Published USD prices for Starter and Growth
    • Onboarding flows and analytics in one tool
    • 3-year data retention on Growth

    Cons

    • Starter is limited to 2,000 monthly active users
    • Advanced product analytics requires Growth from $849 per month
    • No permanent free plan

Buying guide

How to choose

Start from the questions you need answered

Activation, retention and feature adoption all come down to funnels, retention curves and cohorts, and every event analytics tool here covers them. The differences show up in the extras: Amplitude and Mixpanel focus on analysis depth, PostHog adds feature flags, error tracking and surveys, Pendo and Userpilot add in-app guides, and Statsig is built around experiments.

Estimate your event volume before comparing prices

Most product analytics tools bill by tracked events or sessions, not seats. Amplitude includes 2M events a month free, Mixpanel 1M, PostHog 1M, Statsig 2M on its Developer plan and Kissmetrics 100k. Count the events a typical user fires per session, multiply by monthly active users, and check where that lands on each vendor's calculator.

Decide whether you need in-app guidance

If the goal is to move activation numbers, not only measure them, an adoption suite can show onboarding checklists and tooltips to the users who stall. Pendo includes in-app guides on every plan, and Userpilot Starter at $299 per month bundles in-app engagement with usage trend analysis. Pure analytics tools usually need a separate guidance product.

Check retention limits and seat rules

Data history matters for retention analysis. Heap Free keeps 6 months of data and Growth 12 months, Amplitude Plus keeps 2 years, PostHog pay-as-you-go keeps 2 years, and Statsig Pro offers unlimited analytics retention. Amplitude, Mixpanel, PostHog and Statsig include unlimited seats, which keeps costs flat as more of the company looks at the data.

Use the free tier on real tracking

Nearly every tool here has a permanent free plan, so install two of them on the same product for a few weeks. Build the same activation funnel and week-one retention chart in each, then compare how long it took and whether the answers match. Startups should also check the free year programs Amplitude and Mixpanel offer to early-stage companies.

Amplitude is our top pick for product and growth teams because every plan includes analytics, session replay, experiments and guides with unlimited seats, and the Free plan covers 2M events a month. Mixpanel is the best alternative for fast funnel and retention reports, with 1M free events a month.

+What is the best free product analytics tool?

PostHog has the broadest free tier, with 1M analytics events, 5K session recordings and 1M feature flag requests every month. Amplitude offers 2M free events a month, Mixpanel 1M and Statsig 2M on its Developer plan, and Google Analytics 4 is free for web and app traffic.

+Which tool is best for measuring activation and retention?

Amplitude and Mixpanel are the strongest for building activation funnels, retention curves and behavioral cohorts. If you also want to act on the data with onboarding flows, Pendo and Userpilot combine analytics with in-app guidance.

+How much does product analytics software cost?

Most tools start free and bill by event or session volume. Kissmetrics Growth is $99 per month for 500k events, Statsig Pro is $150 per month with 5M events, and Userpilot Starter is $299 per month. Pendo, Heap and FullStory price paid plans on request.

+Is Google Analytics 4 enough for product analytics?

GA4 is free and strong for acquisition, attribution and web and app traffic, with funnel explorations and predictive audiences. It is not built for feature-level adoption, session replay or experiments, so most product teams pair it with a tool such as Amplitude, Mixpanel or PostHog.
