Linux Video Editing Software – What an Open Source Sony Vegas Looks Like

by admin on February 8, 2010

This quick tutorial will teach you how to put together a video complete with titles, transitions and effects! It’s easy to learn the basics of video editing, especially in Linux! The program I used is called Kdenlive, It’s like Sony Vegas, except it’s free and open-source! www.kdenlive.org

There is also a live usb/DVD version. You can then boot from the pendrive/DVD into a live linux with the program installed. So you’re able to access files on your HDD without affecting your normal OS. It would run more slowly than running it from an installed linux, but should be OK to use.

Use VirtualBox to run Linux as a guest OS

Stupid question perhaps and please don’t kill me, but:

Will this work on Mac/Windows?

spindlegrinder February 8, 2010 at 7:58 pm

I got the program installed but how do I put a voice track? or a sound track?

spindlegrinder February 8, 2010 at 7:58 pm

@iCrAzEhGirl These are the instructions for the last two releases of Ubuntu. I am guessing that you are using this distro since it is Nixie’s fav…… The instructions are easy to follow; slow, step by step. Good Luck!

Crashes all the time. Does not seem to like Ubuntu (Gnome). Un-install & try something else!

KDenlive doesn’t let me render anything. It quits the render process every time no matter what I do.

GEE THANKS

LoliComplicated February 8, 2010 at 7:58 pm

This video was so amazingly creative. I loved what you did moving yourself around and pretending like you were trapped in the preview window. I also liked how you manipulated the video and had it all pre recorded. Very clever.

An open source software ? Does it do HD videos?
Wow, it really kick ass… Really nice!
These developers really deserve some financial support.
They will have mine!
